Concrete Staining

For that beautiful individual look, we can stain your concrete, then coat it with an epoxy, or polyurethane for a glossy shine that has to be seen to be believed.       The stain is in the concrete so there is no flaking or peeling like painted surfaces, and with the right coatings, and maintenance the colour will last for as long as the concrete.

There are two types of stains that we use:

• Acid Stains (Acid staining)
• Water based stains

Acid Stains

.         

Acid Staining is Huge in the Commercial and Domestic Scene in the United States, and the floors that are being created are breathtakingly beautiful. Here in Australia the idea is still relatively new, but it is catching on very quickly. We are now able to offer an alternative for exposed concrete surfaces that can be  more appealing than polished, or painted concrete.

 Acid stains are a blend of coloured salts in acid in a range of different colours, and the stain reacts with the Lime and calcium in the concrete in a way that guarantees that no two Acid Stains will look the same. It can create some stunning mottling and marbling effects, and stains can be combined to create some truly stunning surfaces.

Because the stain is completely dependant on the existence of certain minerals in the concrete, we find that it is best practise to install a thin overlay on existing concrete, which can be smooth, or trowelled to create rock effects, which look very natural when they are stained. Patterns can also be scored or cut into the overlay prior to staining to create any effect desired.

Water Based Stains.

These stains are a lot more predictable, and there are many more colours available, and using custom trowelled overlays and score lines many options are available to the client, With the right combinations a slate or sandstone paved look is easily achieved.
